Design for Circularity

From June 3rd to 28th, 2023, the Dutch Consulate General in Hong Kong will present (among other pioneering circular projects) the ‘Superlocal Pavilion’ in the local ‘Central Market Building’. The exhibition shows proven best circular practices in areas of built environment, fashion, and everyday goods.

Float Court Sloterplas

To give Amsterdam Nieuw-West an urban boost, there is the municipal desire for a new iconic building, in or on the Sloterplas. But could that icon also be a skate park? Maurer United thus explored an alternative option for a New West icon; A floating skatepark that refers to the origin of skateboarding.

Skateboard City

From May 7th to July 9th, the Van Eesteren Museum presents ‘Skateboard City’, a large-scale exhibition on skateboard culture in relation to the city. Various design projects related to skateboarding and city playgrounds will be highlighted, with work by Maurer United, SCALA+MANA, Bureau B+B and others.

Preview: Moebius Moebel

This concrete bench for public space will be installed in Utrecht. On the playground between two schools, the design depicts circular thinking – but with a twist. The bench consists of nine prefab concrete elements. A 3D print on a scale of 1:100 gives an impression of its proportions.

Docomomo visits JVE / MU

The Belgian foundation DOCOMOMO visited the Jan van Eyck Academy as part of an excursion. Director Boudewijn Cox, along with Maurer United, gave a presentation on the modernist building (1958, Frits Peutz), focusing on the history and future of the building complex.

Indemann Visitors’ Center

As a jury member of the competition ‘Besucherzentrum Indemann,’ Nicole Maurer co-designated the firm ‘Zweering Helmus Architekten’ (Aachen) as the winner of the competition. The pavilion design modestly poses as a landscape element next to the robust ‘Indemann’ observation tower.

Interaction Heerlen-Noord

The Heerlen North research project of the Chair of Urban Planning at RWTH Aachen is in full swing. On Monday, Dec. 19, the group of international students presented their initial findings to project leader Ron Meyer. Outside ideas bring new impulses to Heerlen. To be continued.

Van Eesteren Excursion

As part of the International Learning Lab, Maurer United organized a field trip to the Van Eesteren Museum in Amsterdam. Regarding the research project Heerlen Noord, students from the RWTH Aachen studied the district of Amsterdam New West and visited the exhibition.

Barnhouse Preview

The Barnhouse is being realized in Ransdaal. A former barn is transformed into the final building block of a carré farmhouse, completely constructed in wood. Maurer United created the design following the Farmhouse. The roof has been completed, with the facades and intermediate floors to follow soon.

Rebau Publication

REBAU – part of the ‘Zukunftsagentur Rheinisches Revier’ – recently published a book on the topic of circular construction. SUPERLOCAL constitutes a best-case project in this publication, which identifies innovative materials, companies, and projects related to the ‘Ressourcenwende’.
