THREE LEVELS OF EXPERIENCE

Maurer United Architects designed the renovation of the main hall of Muziekgieterij in Maastricht. The upper balconies – previously only accessible via the backstage – are being integrated into the public area. This creates around 100 spots with improved sightlines, without increasing the total capacity of 1,100 visitors.

GAY JONGEN

Maurer United Architects, in collaboration with interior architect Gay Jongen, designed Jongen’s new showroom in the Scharn district of Maastricht. Under the slogan Studio, Store and Social, Jongen combines his design studio, retail space, and meeting place. Two design apartments have been created on the upper floor.

ILL WINTERSCHOOL

The International Learning Lab of Maurer United Architects, in collaboration with RWTH Aachen (New Regional Bauhaus), TU Berlin, and the North China University of Technology, organized a Winter School. Nine Chinese architecture students developed visions for Heerlen Center and North.

MODULAR MOEBIUS BENCH

Last week, the artwork Moebius Bench by  Maurer United Architects was  officially opened and put into use in Utrecht. The modular furniture installation build in concrete, connects the public square with the surrounding neighborhood and schools, and raises awareness about sustainability and the natural cycle.

DESIGN RAADHUISPLEIN

Today, Maurer United Architects presented the design for the new Raadhuisplein in Heerlen. The contemporary design, created in collaboration with landscape designers Mulder De Vries and Van Gorkom, brings water and greenery to the city center and strongly references the Roman past.

ARTEZ Excursion

Last weekend, 40 architecture students from the Artez Academy Arnhem visited the Farmhouse of Maurer United in Ransdaal. Marc and Nicole Maurer gave a presentation about the region and the youngest estate in the Netherlands: the small-scale beef farm ‘Hemels Vlees’ of farmer Zef Soogelee.

Tiny House Update

Maurer United experiments with various biobased construction techniques. Based on the Tiny House Park design, four buildings are currently being further developed and realized. The Tiny Holz House is based on a glue-free ‘CLT’ construction method. The Tiny Pipi House is based on energy+ timber frame construction.

INDEMANN TROUWLOCATIE

Throughout the year, many couples in the Rheinische Revier choose to get married in the observation tower ‘Indemann’. This landmark was built in 2009 by Maurer United and is currently being adapted to make winter weddings possible as well. See the Aachener Zeitung for more information about this gigantic robot.

CIRCULAR SOUTHERN DUTCH LIMBURG

The master students from i.e. Iran, India, Japan, China, Turkey and Egypt are developing a regional plan under the guidance of Nicole Maurer. The goal of the project is to propose spatial visions and scenario’s for a circular economy and cross-border mobility in the region of Zuid-Limburg and its neighboring areas.
